Data Driven Acoustic Design, Zurich, 2018-2020
Data Driven Acoustic Design
This research project investigates the mutual relationship between geometrically complex surface textures and their acoustic performance through data science methods. These surface textures, designed to trigger relevant acoustic responses, are generated on a daily basis and 3d printed at 1:10 model scale. An automated robotic setup is employed to record the impulse responses in front of these surfaces by repeatedly positioning a microphone and a speaker at several spots. The collected data contain both geometrical and acoustical information and serve to build a data-driven simulation that allow to validate digitally designed surface geometries in regard to their acoustic response.
